Mathematics
Math is all around us. That is why it is so important to have a solid foundation in the basic skills before entering higher levels of math.
We use Math in Focus, a Singapore Math program, to support our learning of the math standards. Look for lots of hands-on learning!!
This year we will be focused on the following concepts: use cardinal numbers to 100 and ordinal numbers to 10th; use number bonds to represent number combinations; count by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s forward and backward to 100; compare and order numbers to 100; use place value models to represent numbers to 100; write numbers to 100 in standard and word form; identify and use pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to make simple coin combinations; add and subtract fluently within 20; add and subtract up to 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping; add the same number to multiply; share equally and make equal groups to divide; use mental math to add and subtract; estimate quantities using referents; identify and describe two- and three-dimensional shapes; identify and extend patterns; use the Associative and Commutative Properties of Addition; use positional words to describe location; use halves and fourths as fractions; measure and compare lengths and weights using non-standard units; read a calendar to identify days of the week, months, and seasons; tell time to the half hour; and collect and organize data in different ways; . That's A LOT!!
